Patch Design

ClientLocal Highway Traffic Enforcement OfficersDateApril 2024ServicesPatch DesignDescriptionThis patch was created as part of a small internal initiative for a provincial traffic enforcement unit, meant to recognize officers who stop drivers caught speeding above a set threshold. The design needed to feel bold and serious, with visuals reflecting the offense's intensity and the fast-paced nature of enforcement work.Share

Project Goal

To create a patch that fits naturally within the unit’s existing visual system while also standing apart as a symbol of recognition. It had to carry authority, but still feel like a unique marker of achievement.

Design Approach

By using sharp, angular typography, the design immediately picks up on the themes of speed, urgency, and control. That feeling was pushed further by keeping the layout bold and straightforward, with a strong focal point and clean, balanced details. To bring in a sense of motion, lightning bolts were added along the sides, echoing the typography and adding visual energy. A subdued, uniform-aligned palette helped everything feel cohesive, while small elements—like the car icon and outer ring—grounded the patch in its purpose.
